Hot Cross Bums is the brainchild of Paul Bird, a very very handsome man based in Hertfordshire.

Paul’s love of food started at an early age, despite the best attempts of his mother to put him off food for life.  It was as a result of her recipe for Spaghetti Bolognese (Mince.  Cook in its own fat.  Don’t drain.  Serve on Spaghetti) that he decided to learn to cook for himself.  His student budget was greatly increased when he realised he could actually prepare Indian food better than his local takeaway at a fraction of the cost.  Such was the demand for his spicy sizzlers that friends at different universities frequently requested “curry canisters” – little jars of Paul’s own special spice mix.

Since then, he’s worked on a whole bunch of cookery shows, both behind and in front of the cameras, and he also created and ran the film program (not without controversy) for many years at the Soul Survivor festival.  His writing has been published in a variety of places, including Total Film magazine and Financial Solutions.  He’s currently working on his first novel for children – and bloody good it is too.

When not in the kitchen or fleapit, Paul enjoys playing the Ukulele, the consumption of Real Ale, and rolling about on the floor burbling “yahhh yahhh yahhh”.
